Located in south-central Utah in the heart of red rock country, Capitol Reef National Park is a hidden treasure filled with cliffs, canyons, domes, and bridges in the Waterpocket Fold, a geologic monocline (a wrinkle on the earth) extending almost 100 miles.
The Chimney Rock parking lot is being reconfigured and new accessible vault toilets will be installed. To facilitate work the parking area and trail will be closed starting October 17. This is part of the Scenic Drive and parking lot project.

The Scenic Drive is closed from just south of the campground to Capitol Gorge for construction. Expect heavy truck traffic. Most of the park remains accessible. The road is currently expected to reopen mid-November.

The visitor center parking lot is being expanded and reconfigured. It is partially closed to facilitate work. Expect flaggers, congestion, and a full lot. Look for signs to alternate parking for vehicles over 20 feet.

Recent water quality testing shows moderate E. coli levels in Sulphur Creek and the Fremont River. Use caution if entering the water. Do not get water in your mouth, do not swim. Wash hands with soap and water.
