  • Wednesday, August 7, 2024 - Mandatory Water Conservation Has Returned to the South Rim of the Park

    All South Rim residents and visitors are required to conserve and reduce water usage wherever possible in homes, hotel rooms and campgrounds. Cause: pump failure at Havasupai Gardens caused water reservoir tanks to become depleted.

  • Wheeler Peak Campground and Bristlecone Trailhead Closed
    Great Basin National Park

    Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive is closed at the Summit Trailhead. Trailers must turn around at Mather Overlook. Access to the Bristlecone Grove, Alpine Lakes, and Wheeler Peak summit trails are available via the Summit Trailhead or via the Lehman Creek Trail.

  • South Rim Visitor Center and Trails Not Accessible August 5-12 (approx.)
    Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

    Due to active construction in the parking lot, it is not possible to reach the visitor center or the Oak Flat trail via the Rim Rock Trail. (Normally Rim Rock connects from the campground and Tomichi Point to the visitor center.) Uplands Trail is open.

  • Caribou Island Shelters Closed for Maintenance August 19, 2024 - August 21, 2024
    Isle Royale National Park

    The two shelters at Caribou Island campground will be closed for painting and minor repairs August 19, 2024 through August 21, 2024. The tent site at Caribou Island will remain open. The shelters will reopen August 22, 2024.

    There is a water pipe break at Lees Ferry. We need to turn off the water in order to repair it. The anticipated time will be 48hrs beginning at approximately 10:00 am on 8/6. There will be no water to the ramp area while the repair is ongoing

    Due to staffing logistics the Abo, Quarai and Gran Quivira Visitor Centers are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Trails, restrooms & picnic areas remain open at the sites 9am to 5pm. The Mountainair Visitor Center remains open 7 days a week 9am to 5pm.

  • Fish Stressed by Hot Weather
    Grand Teton National Park

    Hot weather causes elevated water temperatures that are stressful for coldwater fish such as trout. Fishing compounds this stress and hampers the fish’s ability to recover when caught and released. When water temps exceed 68* fish suffer.

  • Platte River Campground Loop 1 Comfort Station Closure

    The comfort station located in upper Loop 1 in the Platte River Campground is closed indefinitely due to a water main break. Handicap port-o-johns are available. Seven full-service restroom/shower sites remain available throughout the campground.

  • Old Indian Trail Area Closure

    An area surrounding and including the Old Indian Trail system is closed. An infestation of Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) has been identified in the area. HWA is an exotic invasive insect that can rapidly defoliate and kill hemlock trees.

    Glacier National Park

    Stage I Fire Restrictions go into effect on Saturday, August 3 across Northwest Montana. All campfires are prohibited, including the use of wood and charcoal grills. Smoking is only allowed in an enclosed vehicle or a 3' wide area clear of vegetation.
